Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where does the money go?

When you give a gift to GGC, your donation will be used in the area it is needed the most. Financial gifts help fund student financial aid, new technology and expansion, faculty training programs and more. Donations are placed in the Georgia Gwinnett College Fund, where they are administered through the Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation. While state funding of GGC is a highly-valued investment, gifts from friends, parents, faculty and staff are vital for the College to provide a margin of excellence. For more on the GGC Foundation, please visit the Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation Website.

2. With so many students paying tuition, why does the college need more money?

As with all colleges and universities, tuition does not cover the full cost of a student’s education. At GGC, tuition only covers about 60% of the cost of a student’s education. GGC depends on donations from other sources to help secure the rest. Support from outside sources provides scholarships and growth opportunities for GGC students that would not be possible otherwise.

3. Is my gift tax deductible?

Since the GGC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, gifts are usually tax deductible. The IRS lists guidelines for each type of gift, usually requiring donors to itemize gifts. Please see the IRS guidelines for charitable contributions or consult with your accountant.
