Biography

Dr. J.C. Price earned a B.S. in mathematics at California Polytechnic State University in 2001, a M.S. in mathematics at Purdue University in 2007, and a Ph.D. in mathematics at Purdue University in 2009. After his graduate work, he accepted a position as an assistant professor of mathematics at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, where he subsequently earned the rank of associate professor. Price joined Georgia Gwinnett College in 2014.

His primary area of research is in algebraic geometry, in which he has spent a portion of his career exploring the limits of the techniques created by his advisor, Dr. Shreeram Abhyankar, to solve the Jacobian Conjecture. His other areas of interest include actuarial science and math education. His most recent publication is based on his efforts to engage liberal arts students in mathematics. Such work has led him to his current interest in changing the way students learn and think about mathematics by flipping the classroom.

Price is originally from St. Louis, Mo. He met his wife, Alison Troyer Price, while a graduate student at Purdue University. They have three children together Emerson, Harper, and Adelaide. His other interests include science fiction, tennis and golf.
