Dr. Darin S. Wilson, director of Athletics at Georgia Gwinnett College, has been named to the executive committee of the Association of Independent Institutions, Inc.
The association promotes the education, development and welfare of student-athletes through their experiences and participation in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). GGC will participate as an independent institution for the 2012-2013 academic year as a member of the Association of Independent Institutions.
“It is an honor to be selected to serve on the executive committee of the association,” Wilson said. “We are excited about our inaugural year competing in the NAIA while also being a member of the Association of Independent Institutions.”
Wilson arrived at GGC almost a year ago, charged with building the college’s intercollegiate athletics program from scratch in time for competition this fall. The Grizzlies have been accepted into the NAIA and will face Tennessee Temple University in an Aug. 25 double-header men’s and women’s soccer match as their first official intercollegiate event.
Earlier this year, Wilson received the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) - Athletics Directors Association Athletics Director of the Year Award for 2010-11. The annual award recognizes Wilson's competent, comprehensive, practical, innovative and principled approach to college athletics.
“Darin has shown outstanding leadership throughout his career,” said GGC President Daniel J. Kaufman. “We are proud that he will represent Georgia Gwinnett as a member of the AII executive committee.”
