Georgia Gwinnett College has extended the deadline to apply for fall 2011 classes to July 1 in response to a flood of applications received so far. The college also has announced an additional Open House program.
“We have received an unprecedented number of applications, far beyond what we saw last year at this time,” said Stas Preczewski, vice president for Academic and Student Affairs. “We want to be sure that all prospective students have a chance to submit their applications. In particular, many first-generation college students may need more time to deal with what is an unfamiliar process. The two extra weeks may make a significant difference for these students.”
The college will enroll about 8,000 students this fall, continuing its dramatic growth. GGC now enrolls more Gwinnett students than any other University System of Georgia institution. However, because the campus now offers student housing, the college is attracting more students from outside of the county.
Expanded academic programs, new facilities, the anticipated addition of international students and the 2012 introduction of intercollegiate athletics also are drawing more interest.
Students who want to learn more about the college are invited to attend one of the college’s two upcoming Open House programs. Attendees will hear a presentation that includes an overview of the college and sessions providing information about financial aid, student success programs, student clubs and majors. There are even special sessions for parents.
GGC’s Open House program offers tours of the campus, including the college’s recently opened student center, library and learning center and student residence halls.
The Open House programs will be held June 7 and June 28, 4-7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided in the campus dining hall. Prospective students may register for Open House by calling the Office of Admissions at 678-407-5313, or visiting the college’s Web site at www.ggc.edu. Seating is very limited.
The college also is accepting applications for rooms in GGC’s residence halls, which provide suites of two to 12 private bedrooms with shared kitchenette and living spaces. The residence halls are a short walk from academic buildings, as well as the library and learning center and new student center. Information about campus housing also is available at www.ggc.edu.
Application information also is available through the GGC Web site.
