Georgia Gwinnett College has released the schedule for its first-ever men’s soccer season, announced by head coach Steve DeCou Monday.
The 2012 slate features 18 games, including nine home games on the GGC campus in Lawrenceville.
DeCou’s team kicks off its season with a home game Saturday, Aug. 25, part of an opening day doubleheader with the Grizzlies women’s squad that starts at 1:00 p.m. Both GGC teams will take on Tennessee Temple University.
The Grizzlies will begin play this year on the GGC intramural fields adjacent to campus housing while their synthetic turf field is completed, part of the $13.5M Varsity Athletics Complex facility located along Collins Hill Road.
DeCou’s squad is scheduled to play eight true road games around the Southeast this fall and will play twice in a tournament in Savannah, Ga., hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Additional local matchups include contests at Covenant College, Reinhardt University and Young Harris College. There are six games on the docket against squads from the Peach State. The Grizzlies will also make trips to Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.
"Our 2012 schedule will offer the opportunity to test ourselves against some of the best teams in this region, ranging from NCAA Division II to NAIA," said DeCou. "Our goal for the upcoming year is to have a winning record, implementing a playing style and identity that establish a culture and tradition of success that will lead to future championships."
The Grizzlies will play two scrimmages before their season opener. The first is at home on Saturday, Aug. 18, against Oglethorpe at 6:00 p.m.
