It is the intent to conduct the spring commencement ceremony outside on the GGC campus even if it is raining or weather conditions are not ideal.
However, the ceremony could be delayed for up to two hours while a storm passes. If cancellation is necessary due to inclement or severe weather, information regarding cancellation or ceremony date/time changes, including when and where to pick up diplomas, will be posted on the GGC website homepage.
Inclement weather includes heavy or persistent rain or heat. The National Weather Service defines severe weather as severe thunderstorm watch/warning or tornado watch/warning and the conditions that are present during the watch/warning.
Open umbrellas will not be allowed during the course of the ceremony to avoid the chance of impeding the view of any guest in attendance. However, ceremony guests should come prepared with appropriate rain gear if rain is forecasted. View all prohibited items.
Should severe weather threaten, the GGC website homepage will have updated alert information no later than three hours before the start of the ceremony on the day of commencement.
Campus Alert System
If the ceremony is delayed or cancelled, a message will be sent to graduates, faculty and staff using cell phones registered to the Rave Alert system.
If the ceremony is underway but is interrupted by inclement or severe weather, graduates and guests should follow instructions provided via official announcements. Depending on the timing and severity of the weather conditions, commencement activities may be delayed or cancelled.
Alternative Viewing Locations
Limited seating will be available in Cisco Auditorium, located in Building C, for guests who wish to view a live broadcast of the ceremony.
The ceremony may be streamed from any device via the link on the GGC Commencement website.
