Steps to Studying Abroad at GGC
Visit Georgia Gwinnett College’s Office of Internationalization (OI) to:
- Sign up for an information session to receive general information about the study abroad process at GGC.
- Complete a student information form.
- Browse the study abroad materials.
- Request specific program information.
- Verify that you are a GGC student who has completed the minimum credit hours (24) associated with a sophomore in good standing at the time of completing your study abroad application.
- Verify that you have a minimum 2.7 cumulative grade point average to participate in any study abroad program. Exception to this stipulation will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Certain study abroad programs may require a higher GPA or other prerequisites before acceptance into the program.
- Make an appointment to meet with an OI staff member to choose a destination, select a program, obtain a GGC study abroad application and appropriate program application.
- See your academic mentor to discuss your plans and courses abroad and begin the approval process (OI will assist you with this process).
- Submit the applications on or before the listed fall or spring program deadlines.
- Begin research on the country you would like to visit.
- Apply for your passport and work with the OI staff to make preliminary travel arrangements.
- Complete all acceptance forms and return them to the Office of Internationalization.
- Attend all mandatory pre-departure orientations sponsored by OI and/or your program sponsor.
- Remain engaged with all current events that pertain to your study abroad country (and the surrounding region). Make an extra effort to be aware of any safety issues/concerns by visiting the U.S. Department of State website.
Upon your return to GGC, meet with the education abroad advistor regarding:
- GGC re-entry information
- Credit Transfer
- Activities on campus
