Spotlight

What makes GGC an exciting place to learn to be a teacher?

  • Small class sizes allow GGC students and faculty to work closely together.
  • Committed faculty provide the support necessary for all students to succeed. As mentors, GGC’s faculty serve as strong role models for future teachers.
  • A focus on the learner guides GGC students in developing classroom environments that meet learners’ social, emotional and physical needs, in addition to their academic needs.
  • Faculty development at GGC focuses on the enhancement of teaching and mentoring skills. Faculty retention and promotion are dependent upon annual performance evaluations (GGC does not offer tenure).
  • An integrated approach to instruction provides GGC students with the knowledge needed to develop instruction that effectively addresses all areas of the curriculum.
  • Field-based courses give GGC students extensive practice in varied settings with a wide range of strategies for delivering instruction and managing classrooms.
  • An emphasis on data-based decision-making enables GGC graduates to evaluate the quality of instruction and assess student progress.
  • A strong partnership between GGC and Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has resulted in the development and delivery of teacher education programs that address real world needs of today’s teachers and schools.

Students from the School of Education will join educators and industry leaders from around the region on Feb. 24 when they volunteer their time with the 2012 Gwinnett Regional Science and Engineering Fair, to be held in the Gwinnett Center.

Close to 100 of the College’s SOE students will volunteer their time at the event, which is one of the largest science fairs in the country. The annual fair is predicted to attract hundreds of elementary, middle and high school students from around the region; that makes it an ideal place for future educators, said Dean Cathy Moore.
