Education students had another reason to celebrate this November when the Gwinnett Federal Credit Union pledged a $50,000 gift to fund a scholarship for the GGC School of Education.

"This gift celebrates our 50th anniversary and represents continued support of GGC's mission," said Marshall Boutwell, GFCU's president/CEO, as he presented the check to GGC President Daniel J. Kaufman. “We are proud to be associated with the College and be part of its important impact on students and our community.”

Beginning with the 2012-13 academic year, the GFCU grant will aid GGC students who are majoring, or intending to major, in early childhood education, special education or another major that leads to teacher certification.

"This gift will help us recruit talented individuals into the field of education,” said Dean of Education Cathy Moore.  “We are delighted and honored to partner with GFCU in the mission of building quality future teachers for our community.”

This is the second GFCU-sponsored grant that has benefited the School of Education. A 2010 gift from the financial institution aided Lucinda Scrivener, a junior majoring in special education.

“I want to express my appreciation to Gwinnett Federal for its generosity,” said Scrivener, a mother of three children. “I am grateful for the assistance toward reaching my goal of becoming a pre-kindergarten special education teacher.”
