Mathematics Teacher Certification Track, Mathematics Major
The Mathematics Teacher Certification Track prepares students to teach at the high school level while also providing a solid mathematics major. The mathematics component of the program provides a rigorous grounding in areas common to all mathematics students as well as areas of particular relevance to future educators such as geometry and the history of mathematics. The program was designed to meet the standards for teacher certification in Georgia as well as those recommended by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
The track also includes substantial work in the school of education, to provide students with the pedagogical tools they will need in their career. In addition to classroom work, students will work closely with GGC’s highly accomplished faculty outside the classroom as well. They will have the opportunity to work on community outreach projects and participate in field work in the Gwinnett County school system. While the track is primarily intended for those who plan a career teaching grades 8-12, graduates will have sufficient background to attend graduate or professional school or work in a non-educational environment.
