Reading

The mission of the reading program is to provide an innovative, multidisciplinary, individualized, flexible curriculum that prepares students for academic study and inspires them to accomplish personal goals as life-long learners.  The Reading Program develops the student as a whole person, academically, socially and personally and prepares them to succeed in a global society.

Reading classes

Student Success Reading currently offers one course, READ 0098 (additional courses may be added as the need arises).

Student Success READ 0098
Student Success Advanced Reading emphasizes inferential, interpretive and critical reading comprehension strategies. It also focuses on analysis, synthesis and evaluation of text as well as efficient reading, study and test-taking skills.

Placement into reading classes

Students who earn a score of less than 74 on the COMPASS test must enroll in READ 98, offered through the Student Success Program.  Students who earn a score of 74 or above are exempt from this requirement.  Register to take the COMPASS test.

Exiting out of reading classes

Students in Student Success READ 0098 must pass the course with a C or better and score at the 45th percentile in reading comprehension on the Nelson Denny to take the COMPASS test.
