Bear Essentials is Georgia Gwinnett College’s orientation and student integration program. This mandatory program is where you’ll learn all the “essentials” and opportunities awaiting you both academically and socially.
Bear Essentials is made up of three sections, which are required before beginning a semester at GGC.
Section I: Testing and Immunization
Section II: On-Campus
Section III: On-line
Prior to starting a semester at GGC, accepted students must complete all placements tests and immunization forms. Students may be exempt from testing with appropriate SAT or ACT scores, or by having transfer credits in identified areas. You will be notified by the Admissions office if you are not exempt or if you are missing material for this section. All testing material must be completed before attending the on-campus section.
Once accepted, students will receive an invitation to the on-campus portion of Bear Essentials. This is a mandatory session where students spend half a day learning about life at GGC and get answers to any questions they may have, as well as register for classes. Once receiving an invitation, it is important that you register for Bear Essentials as soon as possible; space fills up quickly.
For your convenience, a section of Bear Essentials can be done at home and on your own time on-line. Students will learn more about this section of Bear Essentials during the on-campus section. Similar to the previous two parts, this section must be completed prior to beginning a semester at GGC, or there will be a hold on the student's account.
Parents and families of accepted students are invited to an optional session that occurs at the same time as Bear Essentials. Here, parents and families can learn more about what GGC has to offer their students and hear about ways they can be a part of the GGC community.
If you have any questions about registering for Bear Essentials, please contact Dr. Anita Vorreyer, director of Orientation and New Student Programs, at 678.407.5754 or avorreye@ggc.edu.
