| GGC Students Rally for Haiti Relief |
|
On Tuesday, Jan. 12, a massive earthquake caused widespread destruction throughout the country of Haiti. To help the relief efforts, several Georgia Gwinnett College student organizations are working together and are calling upon the GGC community to donate money to be used in Haiti. The GGC Service Learning, Active Citizenship and Community Engagement office has identified the American Red Cross as the charity of choice for directing any and all efforts with the student organizations' and individual efforts. However, a full list of charitable organizations that are collecting donations can be found on the AJC Web site. The State Department Operations Center has set up the following number for Americans seeking information about family members in Haiti: 888.407.4747 (due to heavy volume, some callers may receive a recording). Our embassy is still in the early stages of contacting American Citizens through our Warden Network. Communications are very difficult within Haiti at this time. We appreciate the concerted efforts that the GGC Community - students, faculty and staff - have quickly coordinated and organized to assist our global neighbors in Haiti. Our thoughts are with those affected in Haiti. We especially want to reach out to our GGC "family" who have relatives or friends affected by this disaster. If you are interested in coordinating or supporting a project/event/fundraiser/effort to assist with Haiti relief here on GGC's campus, please contact the GGC Office of Service Learning, Active Citizenship and Community Engagement's director, Regina Vella, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
