“Acquisition of An Atomic Force Microscope for Interdisciplinary undergraduate research at GGC.” Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF)
Dr. Neelam Khan, Assistant Professor of Physics, was awarded funds by the NSF Major Research Instrumentation grant to purchase the Atomic Force Microscope to enable research in the chemical, materials, and environmental sciences. The microscope’s capabilities will allow a large number of faculty and undergraduate researchers to obtain nanoscale-level details of surface structure, morphology and interaction forces for a wide range of systems: from III-V semiconductors to biological structures. The microscope will substantially increase the ability of GGC faculty and students to do cutting-edge research.Aside from Dr. Khan, the microscope will be utilized in faculty and student research projects conducted by Dr. Ying Guo, Assistant Professor of Chemistry; Dr. Joshua Morris, Assistant Professor of Chemistry; Dr. Robert Haining, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry; Dr. Kathryn Zimmerman, Assistant Professor of Chemistry; and Dr. Seungjin Lee, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Dr. Simon Mwongela, Associate Professor of Chemistry, serves as the co-PI.
