Rhonda Tingle, Biology Major

"After completing my associate's degree, I put my education on hold to start a family, and now is the perfect time for me to complete my education."

In the first few minutes of speaking with Rhonda Tingle, it is apparent that she has a passion for Georgia Gwinnett College. Working around her busy class schedule, Rhonda works full-time as a wellness director.

Initial Fears

"I had forgotten how to study. I was worried about how I would manage my time. I wondered if I would stick out at GGC because of my age. Would I be mistaken for a professor? The students treat me like one of them. My professors are great as well."

Immediate Benefits

"I was promoted to wellness director three months ago. In the job description for the position, it says that a college degree is preferred. I believe that I got the job because I’m a student at GGC. I’ve always wanted a degree that will give me credibility in my field."

Family Support

At home, she has a loving husband and supportive children. Her daughter is a pediatrician in Gadsden, AL, and her son is a chef in Chattanooga, TN. "They are my biggest cheerleaders. They are very excited about me going back to school." Her husband is also very supportive. "He eats a lot of peanut butter and jelly," she laughs, "but he is very supportive."

Campus Growth

"I'm thrilled about all of the exciting new buildings coming to GGC. We have to grow. Don't look at it as an inconvenience to yourself. It brings opportunities to us."

Her Advice

"Just do it. There will be sacrifices. You'll think to yourself, 'Why am I doing this?’'But, the rewards are there; it is worth it. The professor to student ratio at GGC is terrific."
