Student Spotlight: Greta Faye Angel

Year: Sophomore
Major: Biology (Cell Biology and Biotechnology Track)

Greta didn’t want to overwhelm herself by going to a college where she was just another “number.” She was attracted to Georgia Gwinnett College’s small size and closeness to her home in Gwinnett County. Because she wants to be a pharmacist, she needed a college with a solid sciences program. She is now a sophomore in the Bachelor of Science in Biology program at GGC, which has an emphasis on cell biology and biotechnology. GGC had just what she was looking for – “a small campus with big things to offer.”

Because she graduated high school in the Philippines, Greta had never experienced school in the United States, and she was unsure what the college experience would be like.

“I decided to stay at GGC because it exceeded my expectations of what going to a new college meant, and I just loved everything and everyone in it. As a high school graduate from a different country, I felt at home at GGC.”

The high school she attended in the Philippines is a small school with an emphasis on preparation for college, which helped her transition to life at GGC. She is a dedicated student and can be found most days in the library studying because she enjoys the peace and tranquility.

During her participation in the International Food Festival, Greta won an award for having the best costume. It is important for Greta to share her culture with the GGC community to help bring awareness of other cultures.

For prospective students, she advises, “GGC is a great school. GGC advisors and personal mentors will help you throughout your stay here. The college offers only the best for its students so don't hold back; be as you are and be what you want to be.”
