Student Spotlight: Zohaib Mohammed

Year: Junior
Major: Accounting with pre-med courses

Wary of the downturn in the economy, Zohaib wanted a degree in a field he knew would be instantly marketable. Because of his varied interests, he is choosing to not focus on just one discipline of academia. Along with accounting classes, Zohaib is taking pre-med classes because of his interest in neuroscience. “As a student, I love it. I am busy with three jobs, taking five classes, being an officer in four clubs and volunteering. Even though I don’t have time to hang out with friends, I love to utilize my time to be productive.”

Zohaib immigrated to the US in 1997 from Karachi, Pakistan along with his family, and he graduated from Central Gwinnett High school. Since coming to GGC, Zohaib has enjoyed classes and getting to know his professors. “I absolutely love my advisor and professor, Dr. Jennifer Chapman. She is the epitome of an awesome professor. She makes the class challenging, yet interesting. She is always willing to help. To me, she is the best professor on campus, hands down.” He says the most surprising thing about GGC is the fact that students are always put first. Students are given a lot of power to make decisions at GGC.

He is impressed by great thinkers and would love the chance to meet da Vinci or Jefferson saying, “I have always been amazed by da Vinci’s thoughts. It is mind-numbing how someone can be such a genius and be so ahead of the times. I would also like to meet Thomas Jefferson because I am inspired by his dedication toward education. I love the fact that he studied many subjects all at once.”

On the topic of GGC, Zohaib has a lot to say. “I love the fact that GGC involves students to make every decision. GGC students are involved with dorm decision, picking and naming the mascot, GGC alma mater and deciding on certain policies. I don’t think any other college offers that.” As for prospective students, he offers, “Don’t waste time focusing on clubs and building your resume if you can’t keep up with your grades. New students get so caught up trying to join so many things that they forget grades are their main priority. We have our whole life to build a resume.”
