National African-American Read-in
This evening will bring together students of Dr. Uzzie Cannon who will read aloud from different pieces of African-American history and literature. Visitors are also encouraged to bring and read their own literature. This will be held in the Student Center Dining Hall.
Thurs. Feb. 9 and Feb. 16, 7:00 p.m.
Common Reading Initiative: "Picking Cotton" by Ronald Cotton and Jennifer Thompson-Cannino
Come to one or both of these discussion groups where the GGC community will talk about this true and moving story of mistaken identity, injustice and redemption. Students may pick up a free copy of this book in the Office of Student Involvement, located on the third floor of the Student Center.
Students who attend one of these book discussions will be entered into a contest to win one of 50 tickets to see the Alvin Ailey African American Dance Company on Feb. 19. They will also be entered into a contest to win a trip to the Civil Rights Museum Tour in Birmingham, AL, on Feb. 25.

Free bus transportation and tickets to this event will be raffled off to students who participate in the Common Reading Initiative.

Soul Food Cafe: A Celebration of African-American Art, Music and Cuisine
The Soul Food Cafe will honor African-American cultures with live music, poetry and food. Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and entertainment will go until 10:00 p.m. Join us in the LVIS room of the Student Center for this exciting event. This will be the culminating event for the Common Reading Initiative.

Civil Rights Museum Tour in Birmingham, Alabama
Tickets to this special excursion will be raffled off to students who participate in the Common Reading Initiative, Feb. 9 or Feb. 16.
