Active Citizenship

What is Active Citizenship?

Georgia Gwinnett College students aspire to become active and involved leaders in their community – locally and globally. Students are encouraged, following the GGC mission, to become “contributing citizens and future leaders for Georgia and the nation.” From individual volunteerism, local service activities, organizational involvement or electoral participation – active citizenship takes many forms.

Students at Georgia Gwinnett College are presented with a variety of opportunities to play an active role in the community. Students are encouraged through civic responsibility and accountability within the institution to broaden their perspectives and understanding of the world and to seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to the local Gwinnett community through awareness and solutions that impact on a global level. This is demonstrated through many activities and organizations at GGC, such as:

  • Lobby Days
  • Voter Registration Drives
  • Student Organization Involvement: Student Government Association, POLIS, GGC College Democrats

Students, through sponsored activities and their own projects and resources, become advocates for the community in Gwinnett and discover their own voices in the process.
