Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no sign-up required.
Supported Activities and Functionality
- Research activities, including WWW access.
- Saving to a USB drive, CD-R, or DVD-R.
- Viewing certain reference or reserve material on CD or DVD.
- Viewing multimedia applications with Windows Media Player and Quick Time. Other video viewers are not supported.
Activities That Are NOT Permitted and/or Supported
- Saving to the hard drive in any folder other than in the My Documents folder, accessing the control panel, running commands, reconfiguring or installing software or attempting any other activity that might compromise the short-term or long-term functionality of any of the public access computers are prohibited.
- Installing any software or application not previously installed by the Georgia Gwinnett College staff is prohibited.
- Headphones are required for listening to music or any other audio. Headphones are available at each workstation. Students may use their own headphones if they wish.
- Graphically violent and sexually explicit games are prohibited.
- Viewing, downloading, or distribution of obscene or inappropriate material is prohibited. Please see the Priority of Use statement below.
- Use of projectors by students is prohibited unless they are part of a class arranged by a faculty member.
- Lights must remain turned on at all times, unless a faculty member, as part of an arranged class, needs them turned off.
- Doors to computing facilities must remain open at all times during operational hours, unless required by a faculty member as part of an arranged class.
- Children and young adults under the age of 16 may not use GGC computing facilities unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Priority of Use
Computers are reserved for the following users, in order of priority:
- Students, faculty, and staff affiliated with the Georgia Gwinnett College
- Other members of USG institutions
- General public
Computers are reserved for the following activities, in order of priority:
- Research or locating Library material;
- Using WebCT Vista to compete assignments;
- Working on assignments using provided computing facilities;
- Accessing multimedia applications relevant to scholarly research
And, provided there are computers available,
- Personal email and entertainment.
Note: Activities not included in this list may be deemed inappropriate by the Librarian or Help Desk Assistant on duty, and users may be asked to stop engaging in such activity. Violators may be forbidden future use of GGC computing facilities and/or recommended for disciplinary action.
Printing
Printing from public computers costs 15 cents per page and print jobs may be picked up at the Circulation Desk or Help Desk.
Headsets
Headsets are provided at each workstation.
Copyright
The Library user is responsible for any and all copyright violations that may be committed through the use of Library or Information Commons computers. Intentional violation of copyright law is not permitted. For more information, refer to the U.S. Copyright Act of 1976, Title 17, U.S. Code and the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents policy.
Enforcement
Rules and regulations of Georgia Gwinnett College, as stated in the Student Handbook Instructional Technology Acceptable Use statement, are to be followed. Violators may be forbidden future use of GGC computing facilities and/or recommended for disciplinary action.
Computer users must produce identification if requested to by College personnel, including any student employee on duty in the computing facility.
