We are committed to the safety and security of our GGC residents. Our Residence Life Student Housing is equipped with several safety features, including but not limited to:
Access cards are required for admittance into Residence Life Student Housing and keys are required for admittance into individual rooms. Guests are allowed entry into Housing only during visitation hours and are required to be escorted by the resident host/hostess at all times.
24-Hour Coverage and Security
Professional and trained staff members live in our Residence Life Student Housing and are familiar with agencies throughout campus. These highly trained staff members are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including availability for emergency response coverage.
Additionally, the GGC Campus Police Department patrols Student Housing frequently, along with residential staff who conduct rounds multiple times each evening.
Fire Safety and Protection
In accordance with the GGC Campus Police Department and the Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services Department, fire drills are conducted periodically so that residents become familiar with building evacuation procedures.
Residence Life Student Housing is equipped with following fire protection features:
- Smoke detectors in all bedrooms, suites and hallways
- Emergency evacuation diagrams placed on every suite door (interior side)
- Fire safety tips, procedures and actions posters, which are placed on every bedroom door (interior side)
- Self-closing doors in every suite entry/exit
- Automatic sprinkler system in all bedrooms, suites and hallways
- Fire extinguishers on every floor
- Fire alarm pull stations at every exit
- Emergency lighting and exit lights
Residents are encouraged to lock doors in order to reduce the threat of theft.
Safe Decisions and Practices
We strive to educate our residents and provide you with information and resources to make safe decisions.
We encourage student residents to review our safety tips and utilize the tools available, including the RAVE Guardian, an automated system that alerts the Campus Police Department when you are walking alone and when you arrive at your destination.
Office of Public Safety
Public Safety provides a safe and secure environment for the entire Georgia Gwinnett College campus, including Residence Life Student Housing areas. Our police and security officers are committed to serving, protecting and caring for the GGC community.
Student residents have access to Public Safety services including escorts, safety training, personal defense training, campus event security and lost and found.
