Biography

Dr. Young Shim earned an M.A. in counseling from the University of Illinois and obtained a Ph.D. in counseling and psychology at the University of Akron, Ohio. She was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, and her passion for advancing education led her to move to the USA and continue pursuing academic and clinical work in psychology. She specializes in clinical issues, including depression, anxiety and immigrant mental health problems. She is committed to promoting multicultural perspectives and strongly values diversity and unique perspectives in her teaching. She has worked as a clinical psychologist in various settings, including university counseling centers, community mental health and private counseling practice. She has published articles on mental health, stigma and issues with immigrants in international journals, and presented topics related to clinical psychology at local and national conferences.
