Biography

Amy Lynn Hess earned her undergraduate degree in theatre and interpretation from Central Michigan University, her Master of Arts in theater history and criticism from Ohio University, and Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Naropa University's Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics.

Attending Naropa University, which follows a mission rooted in contemplative education, has had a profound effect on Hess's teaching style. She continues to aspire to that contemplative mission in the courses she teaches.

Hess has been teaching in the Atlanta area since 2008, including courses in creative writing, grammar, English composition, literature, critical thinking, cultural diversity, computer applications and theatre.

In addition to teaching, Hess was actively publishing the Gypsy Daughter chapbook series between the years 2001 and 2021, and she has been writing and publishing essays and academic texts up through the present with her most recent text, Write Outside.

Additional areas of interest include ecopoetics, collaborative narration through role-playing games, and the role of various creative and spiritual practices in everyday life.
