Biography

Dr. Gyurov is originally from Bulgaria – a small southeastern European country on the Balkan Peninsula. He earned his doctorate degree in mathematics at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and worked in the University of Arkansas system until August 2012 when he joined GGC. He brings to GGC the experience of a seasoned educator who loves teaching and working with students. He constantly searches for ideas to get the students inspired and involved in undergraduate research and interdisciplinary research. He does the latter in one of the major GGC study abroad initiatives: the math and biology study abroad program. Gyurov is the math leader of the study abroad program, which ran in 2015 and 2016 in Vietnam and Japan and since 2017 it runs in Thailand and South Korea.

Gyurov’s research interests are in the area of algebraic graph theory and semigroup theory – in particular, graph endomorphisms and algebraic properties of graphs. Further, due to his heavy engagement with the GGC QEP initiative, internationalization of the curriculum, he has strong research interest in the area of STEM education during study abroad opportunities and cultural awareness of the STEM students. His latest publications in the above mentioned fields are:

  • "Creating a Vibrant STEM Study Abroad Program with a Cultural Component (with Mark Schlueter) – Chapter 10 of the book Curriculum Internationalization and the future of global Education published by IGI Global, in print. Available on February 2018
  • "Partially Composed Property of Generalized Lexicographic Product Graphs" (with Nopparat Pleanmani and Sayan Panma) - Discrete Mathematics, Algorithms and Applications, Volume 9 (2017). Number 6, pp.
  • "The Determinant of Graphs Joined by J Edges" (with Daniel Pinzon) – Thai Journal of Mathematics, 2016 Volume 14, (2) pp. 353-367
