Biography

A former award-winning newspaper reporter from North Carolina, Brad Hodges has also studied, worked and traveled extensively in three French-speaking countries. His second lifelong language is French, and he enjoys learning about the syntax, phonology, cultural inferences and other particularities of his students' own first languages.

Before coming to the ELI at Georgia Gwinnett College, he taught at the University of Alabama for 12 years as well as at Georgia State University, in the Peace Corps in Gabon and in Canada during a graduate exchange program. He especially enjoys etymology, comparative linguistics, tracking down students' semantic and phonetic L1 interference, and delivering tailored lessons accordingly.

When he's not on campus, he manages a freelance English/French translation and subtitling business on multiple online platforms. In his free time, he enjoys running, gardening and feeding his guinea pigs.
