Mr. Woods received his master's of science degree in urban teacher leadership from Georgia State University in 2007. He received his undergraduate degree in health and physical education from Clark Atlanta University in 2003. While working on his master's degree, he taught in the public school setting, coached football and track and field, served as the athletic contact person for Jean Childs Young Middle School, and started a family exercise club at the school.
As the athletic contact, he was responsible for coordinating all athletics teams by interviewing coaches, ordering equipment, and scheduling transportation, games and banquets. His family exercise club was started in an effort to use exercise to build or strengthen familial relationships through positive, healthy interaction between family members. As a football coach, he served as the defensive coordinator and strength/conditioning coach.
Woods honed his craft by working at specialty camps during the summer like Campfire USA, West Georgia Wing-T and Defensive Camp, and attending workshops like the Nike Coaches Clinic, Tennessee Strength Clinic and ACSM conferences.
After completing his master's degree, Woods accepted a position with Georgia Perimeter College as a health and wellness coordinator. At Georgia Perimeter, he built a health and wellness program from the ground up. In addition, he sponsored and coordinated events like the healthy barbecue, nutrition workshops, weight lifting techniques and a seasonal walking program.
