Biography

Dr. Ian Curran is a theologian and scholar of religion who has been teaching at Georgia Gwinnett College since 2012. He previously taught religion and philosophy at Young Harris College and was a postdoctoral fellow in religious practices and practical theology at Emory University. He received his Ph.D. in religion from Emory University, a master's degree in theological studies from Duke University, an M.A. in English from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and a B.A. in English from the University of California-Los Angeles. He has taken additional graduate courses in philosophy at the University of Georgia as well as continuing education classes in religion and philosophy at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research.

Curran views education as a practice for the formation of the whole human person, and he makes use of both contemplative and deliberative pedagogies in the classroom. He teaches classes at GGC in world religions, environmental ethics, religion and science, New Testament, Christian thought, and comparative spirituality.

He also chairs the Constructive Theologies section of the Southeast region of the American Academy of Religion and has published articles in both scholarly and popular theological journals. His book, The Vision of Transfiguration, is under review with Baylor University Press.
