Biography

Dr. Hildebrand has been committed to teaching undergraduates throughout his career. Before starting at GGC, he spent several years teaching at a prestigious small liberal arts college and has brought with him the commitment to teaching and mentoring that those schools are known for. His Ph.D. thesis was on topics in the areas of Lie algebras and combinatorics. While still interested in those topics, he is also interested in other topics in mathematics including knot theory and social choice/voting theory. In addition to the more formal aspects of mathematics, Hildebrand is interested in how mathematical ideas can be used in other places. In particular he has written for the well-known baseball analysis site Baseball Prospectus, applying some mathematics techniques to questions such as the impact of scheduling on pennant races.
