Mr. John Dean is a GIS Specialist for Gwinnett County, Ga. in various capacities since 1998. He worked early with cadastral mapping and later with stormwater infrastructure mapping and impervious surface billing. He earned his master’s degree in geography from Georgia State University in 2008 and is a certified GIS professional (GISP). In 2012, he presented at the San Diego ESRI Users Conference on stream restoration mapping.

Dean’s interests include meteorology from rainfall to deserts and growth management from residential downtowns to sprawl. His teaching style is mostly lecture with class involvement and emphasis on concepts, slowing them down for students to take in. Dean sprinkles lightly-weighted assessments throughout the semester. He uses modern, variously selected and relevant reading assignments.
