Biography

Dr. Marvin Bontrager is currently an associate professor of management in the School of Business where he teaches courses in communication, management and organizational behavior.

Bontrager also coordinates academic internships for the School of Business and teaches the Business Internship Experience course.

His teaching philosophy is to promote student engagement, incorporate active learning and use innovative methods in the classroom to foster an interactive learning environment. The primary goal in Bontrager's courses is to utilize the course material to assist students in developing personal skills which are critical to success in their professional endeavors. This goal is supported by his business experience in the real-world corporate environment. Students are expected to prepare themselves for in-class discussions and be actively engaged in the class. Bontrager believes that class participation activities are an important component of student engagement.

Bontrager earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Tyler, a Master’s in business administration from the University of Central Oklahoma and a B.S. in business administration from Quincy University. Prior to teaching at GGC, Bontrager worked in the private sector for 12 years in the health insurance industry. While there, he held the position of strategic account executive in the sales and marketing division and managed business relationships with large corporate clients.
