Biography

Dr. Rachael Fischer is an associate professor of music at Georgia Gwinnett College, and maintains an active schedule as an educator and violinist. An avid chamber musician, Fischer has performed across the United States and in Europe. She is a founding member of Piedmont Camerata, which began its first season of chamber music performances for piano and strings in August 2014. Other recent performances include concerts with the Aspen String Trio, the Jupiter String Quartet, clarinetist Jon Manasse, pianists Peter Miyamoto and Peter Frankl, and violinist Soovin Kim. She has also been invited to perform for regional, national and international events in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, South Carolina, Croatia, France, Scotland and Slovenia as part of a violin and saxophone duo.

In addition to her position at Georgia Gwinnett College, Fischer maintains a Suzuki violin studio in Athens, Ga. She is a past president of the Suzuki Association of Georgia, and is currently co-director of the Atlanta Suzuki Institute. Fischer previously served on the music faculties of Erskine College and Piedmont College.

Fischer holds degrees from the University of Georgia (Bachelor of Music, Doctor of Musical Arts) in Athens, Ga. and Arizona State University (Master of Music) in Tempe, Ariz. Her principal teachers include Michael Heald and Katherine McLin; she has studied viola with Maggie Snyder.

Fischer's research interests include 19th-century European art music and American popular music. Her dissertation is entitled "The Sonatas for Violin and Piano by Johannes Brahms: A Pedagogical Approach."
