Biography

Mr. Rickey Fulton began his GGC experience as a full-time math tutor in 2011, followed by his current assignment as a part-time instructor of mathematics in 2013. Prior to GGC, his work experience included 26 years with AT&T Payroll as a computer analyst and staff manager and four years teaching public middle and high school math.

Fulton has lived in the Atlanta area since 1972 when he came to Oxford College at Emory and has been married 33 years to a pre-K teacher with three grown kids and one grandson.

As for his teaching philosophy, while he subscribes to a “constructing” learning environment in the classroom, he believes all students are looking for the same thing: a clear explanation of what’s before them. “Sometimes, to understand a concept, they need to get a different perspective,” he says. “That’s why I try to explain things in different ways. I call it my ‘80-20 Rule:’ 20 percent of the time, when you think someone gets what you’re saying, they have. Which means 80 percent of the time, you need to explain it differently. Even when a student says they have it, I might go back and try the problem from a different angle, just to see how well they have it.”
