Georgia Gwinnett College is growing...again. The GGC Foundation recently purchased a 75,000 square-foot building and five acres of property on Collins Hill Rd. which will soon become an office and recreational facility.

"We are pleased the Foundation was in a position to take advantage of this situation,” says GGC Foundation Chair Glenn S. White. “It is an outstanding purchase for the College and I appreciate the work of Wayne Mason and the staff."

“We anticipate rapid growth at Georgia Gwinnett College and we need to make certain that our footprint is adequate to meet the needs of students,” adds GGC President Daniel J. Kaufman. “This property is important because it is positioned near the front entrance of the campus and can be seen from Hwy 316.”

Formerly occupied by the owners of Plumbing Distributors Inc., the building is in excellent condition, and includes 60 offices and a large warehouse space. Some remodeling will be necessary to provide office space for faculty and enrollment management staff as well as recreational and athletic facilities, and perhaps a food service operation.

The purchase price was about $3.8 million.

Mason, chair of the GGC Foundation’s real estate committee, states, “This is an important acquisition for the institution. The Foundation’s role is to support this growing college in every way possible. This is an outstanding asset for the Foundation and will be the first of many.”

GGC officials have met with architects and a retrofit will begin immediately. The building will open by fall 2007.
