(Lawrenceville, GA) – Newly appointed University System of Georgia Regent Robert Hatcher visited the campus of Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville today. President Daniel J. Kaufman welcomed Regent Hatcher and briefed him on a variety of topics concerning the first new 4-year state college in Georgia in over one hundred years.

“We are delighted that Regent Hatcher met with us today to see our Campus of Tomorrow, and to listen to the plans we are making to make this college one of the best of its kind in the nation,” Kaufman stated upon conclusion of the visit. Kaufman also said, “We are very appreciative that he took time from his very hectic schedule to tour our campus and become intimately familiar with our opportunities, successes, and even our challenges.”

Hatcher noted that Georgia Gwinnett College has a tremendous opportunity to set the standard for higher education learning using innovating methodologies. “This is just a fantastic campus where students will have access throughout their college career to cutting edge learning technology. We are very proud of our newest institution in Georgia, and look forward to great things from the faculty, staff, and students.”

Hatcher, appointed by Governor Perdue last week to a seven-year term, represents the eighth Congressional District of Georgia. He is president and CEO of MidCountry Financial Corporation, Georgia chairman of the advisory board for Branch Banking and Trust and co-chairman of the Commission for a New Georgia.
