GGC's Inaugural Convocation March 20

Traditionally, convocation ceremonies are formal gatherings where college communities welcome their newest members. For Georgia Gwinnett College, however, its first-ever Convocation Day will be much more. On Thurs., March 20, GGC will celebrate the newest members of its academic community, but will also affirm the commitment of the state’s newest four-year college to create an institution dedicated to the highest standards and ideals.

Participants in the Convocation ceremony will include all GGC faculty robed in traditional regalia, GGC students and their families, all GGC staff and special community guests. The ceremony will be held outdoors on the building B lawn at 3:30 p.m. In addition to the formal ceremony, events will be staged throughout the day reflecting GGC's diverse culture, and showcasing its members' abilities and exceptional achievements.

Banks Bitterman, dean of academics for the Gwinnett High School for Math, Science and Technology, will be the guest speaker.

An integral part of the convocation ceremony will be the unveiling of the GGC covenant. The covenant is a document embodying the college’s ideals and aspirations, and is a promise that individuals in the GGC community make to themselves about how they will conduct themselves as members of this community.
