GGC's official Grizzly mascot to be unveiled at first Rock 'n Rib Fest
The highlight of the first Rock 'n Rib Fest in Historic Downtown Lawrenceville, which will celebrate Georgia's newest four-year institution of higher learning, will be the unveiling of the Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzly, the college’s official mascot. The Rock 'n Rib Fest will be held in downtown Lawrenceville, on the Square, from 1-9 p. m. on Saturday, October 18, 2008. The mascot unveiling is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The students selected the grizzly as their official mascot last spring, and now the bear will get its own "look" – soon to be as recognizable as the University of Georgia’s Uga or Georgia Tech’s Buzz.
"From a symbolic, even historical standpoint, the Grizzly represents the melding of primal strength with reverent wisdom," Dr. Daniel J. Kaufman said. "Our mascot embodies that great animal – that gentle giant – and it will represent Georgia Gwinnett’s ultimate goal to make strong leaders out of its dedicated students."
The Rock 'n Rib Fest, which is open to the public, will feature live classic rock and other entertainment, a food court and of course, barbecued ribs by the ton. The event will conclude at dark with an amazing special pyrotechnics finale that will light up the sky.
The event is sponsored by the city of Lawrenceville and radio station 97.1 The River.
