Dr. Darin Wilson, the newly hired charter director of athletics at Georgia Gwinnett College, has been named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) - Athletics Directors Association Athletics Director of the Year for 2010-11. The annual award recognizes Wilson's competent, comprehensive, practical, innovative and principled approach to college athletics.

In his role of director of athletics at Union College in Barboursville, Kentucky, from 2003 to the summer of 2011, Wilson experienced unprecedented success as the Bulldogs captured 47 conference championships and advanced 47 teams to NAIA national championship play. During his tenure Wilson added eight new athletics programs, bringing the total to 23. With his leadership, Union programs garnered a large number of distinctive honors, both in terms of individual programs as well as individual honors for outstanding athletes and their achievements in competition and in the classroom.

“We are very proud of Darin for this achievement, which reminds us of the very reasons we felt that he was the right person to answer the challenge of building Georgia Gwinnett College’s intercollegiate athletics program,” said GGC President Daniel J. Kaufman. “We are confident that he will continue his winning record at GGC.”
