Georgia Gwinnett College is now accepting applications for its fourth annual Tech Camp. This summer enrichment program enables middle and high school students to explore computing careers, design their own games and mobile applications, and build robots during a hands-on, experience-based week of exposure to the computing future. The program promotes creative thinking and problem-solving.

The program is offered through the GGC School of Science and Technology.

This year’s camp dates are:

  • Session I: June 11-14 (high school coed)
  • Session II: June 18-21 (middle school boys)
  • Session III: June 25-28 (middle school girls)

“No experience is needed,” said Nannette Napier, assistant professor of information technology and a camp co-director. “Students are only limited by the boundaries of their imaginations.”

High school participants will use GameSalad to create awesome games for any cell phone or tablet, and App Inventor for tablet computer or Android cell phone.

Middle school participants will use the popular LEGO Mindstorms to build their robots. They also will design games, music mash-ups and animations through hands-on experiences with personal technologies. They also will make new friends and get a glimpse of what college is like.

Students are supervised by and learn from Georgia Gwinnett faculty and staff, with additional assistance provided by GGC students. The teacher and assistant/student ratio is 1:6 during instructional sessions.

The program fee is $185, and financial aid is available for a limited number of students with demonstrated financial need. There is a $35 non-refundable application fee that is applied to the camp’s total tuition of $185. Students will be provided a snack but must pack their own lunches.

Register today at hercules.ggc.edu/ggctechcamp/. Space is limited. For more information contact Nannette Napier or Kristine Nagel at 678.407.5458, or send an e-mail to TechCampAdmin@lists.ggc.edu.
