“We are honored to have Regent Bernard address our largest graduating class to date,” said GGC President Daniel J. Kaufman.  “His personal story of how he overcame challenges to succeed will surely resonate with our students, many of whom have faced similar obstacles.” More than 250 students will receive their degrees at the ceremony, a full 100 more than last year’s winter ceremony.

He also served as the inaugural chairman of the Health Professions and Education Committee.

In 2010, 2011 and 2012, Bernard was named chairman of the University System of Georgia Foundation, Inc., which is a cooperative organization of the Board of Regents. The foundation administers scholarships, grants and awards in furtherance of the public universities and colleges of Georgia.

A former captain in the United States Marine Corps, Bernard graduated from the University of Georgia and the University of Georgia School of Law. After completing Officer Candidate School, The Basic School and Naval Justice School, he distinguished himself as an officer in the Marine Corps Judge Adjutant General corps.
