Representing one of Georgia Gwinnett College’s four core values – creativity – Fonzworth Bentley presented the annual “Grizzly Growl” lecture Wednesday to a crowd of students in the college’s Student Center.

Bentley is the alter ego of Atlanta native Derek Watkins. Watkins truly represents creativity, as he is a musician, artist, author, actor, producer, speaker and the list just goes on.

He has been named the “First Gentleman of Hip Hop” by GQ Magazine. He is producer and host of the hit MTV show “From G's to Gents,” and self-produced three videos, all of which have premiered on the top videos lists for MTV and BET's 106 & Park. These include, “Everybody,” featuring Kanye West and Andre 3000 (iTunes' first-ever video of the week), “Greener,” featuring Anthony Hamilton and, “Believe It,” featuring Faith Evans. His own album, “CoolOutrageousLoversofUniquelyRawStyle (C.O.L.O.U.R.S.),” debuted in 2011.

He also is author of the New York Times’ best-selling, etiquette book, “Advance your Swagger: How to use Manners, Confidence and Style to Get Ahead.”

Watkins has supported and promoted KnowHow2GO, a national campaign encouraging low-income and first-generation students to go to college.
