Senate President Pro Tempore David Shafer to speak at GGC summer Commencement
Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) has invited Senate President Pro Tempore David Shafer to speak during its summer Commencement ceremony being held at the Infinite Energy Center in Duluth, Georgia on Tuesday, August 8 at 10 a.m.
Shafer represents portions of Gwinnett and Fulton counties in Senate District 48. Additionally, he serves as chairman of the Administrative Affairs Committee, vice chairman of the Senate Insurance and Labor Committee and a member of the Senate Appropriations, Health and Human Services, and Reapportionment and Redistricting committees. He is an ex-officio member of the Senate Banking and Financial Institutions, Regulated Industries and Utilities, Government Oversight, and Rules committees.
Active in the local community, Shafer has served terms as vice chairman of the Gwinnett County Library System Board of Trustees and as a member on the former Gwinnett-Forsyth Regional Library System Board of Trustees. He also has served on the board of directors for the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Atlanta and the Partnership Against Domestic Violence (formerly Georgia Council on Battered Women).
He is a graduate of the University of Georgia and formerly served as a member of the board of directors of the National Alumni Association of the University of Georgia.
