Annual GGC Day Underway
Student success is at the heart of the Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) mission and in response, GGC and the GGC Foundation have teamed up to address the financial needs of students.
Today’s GGC’s Day is one such initiative. This annual day of giving raises awareness of the need as well as the opportunity to support students. Participation in the event has grown year after year. Between 2017 and 2018, donor participation increased by 28 percent and dollars raised increased by 58 percent. This year’s GGC Day goal is to increase donor participation by at least 10 percent.
There are many scholarships designed to support GGC’s goal for the recruitment and retention of academically talented students. Some of the scholarship recipients are selected based on academic ability in addition to other parameters related to demonstrated financial need.
Melanie Tram Mai graduated from GGC in 2018, and was a recipient of a scholarship while pursuing her political science degree. Receiving the scholarship was very impactful to Mai and her success as a college student. Without the financial worries, she was able to focus on her academics.
“I feel so proud to have received the Presidential Scholarship,” said Mai. “It was an honor and the support was both spiritual and financial. I believe everyone in college should have this kind of support. Every donation is important and by supporting GGC Day, you are giving the younger generation an opportunity to achieve their dreams.”
Annually, the GGC Foundation provides approximately $250,000 to support students in the form of scholarships and grants.
