The Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS) recently elected GGC’s Dr. Dovilė Budrytė, professor of political science, School of Liberal Arts, as president-elect on the 2020–2022 AABS board of directors. AABS is an academic organization and a member of the American Council of Learned Societies.

SIGCSE awards Dr. Wei Jin grant for web-based system

GGC’s Dr. Wei Jin, associate professor of information technology, School of Science and Technology, received a $5,000 grant from the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE). Serving as the principal investigator, Dr. Jin proposed a web-based system that allows instructors to set up auto-gradable full tracing exercises using pythontutor.com, a popular open-source code visualization tool, as the underlying system. The augmented system will help engage students in the learning process by requiring students to determine which line is executed next and what happens in memory/output before the system demonstrates the step. Of 38 applicants, Dr Jin was one of five to receive a SIGCSE grant during this particular round.
