Nury Lizeth Castro, assistant director of Community Engagement and Service, was recently named the 2019-20 National Professional of the Year by the Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. during its annual national award ceremony, held virtually. This award recognizes a young leader with at least five years' experience in their industry, and who has demonstrated excellence in their position, achieved numerous accomplishments, and put forth a standard of excellence and effort into their discipline and industry.

Dr. Roslyn Brown, director of Career Services, served as the 2019-2020 president of the Georgia Association of Colleges and Employers. During her term, this professional association increased in memberships and partnerships, introduced new awards, and implemented its first virtual career fair, conference and leadership development program.

Dr. Semire Dikli, associate professor of English, Dr Richard Rawls, professor of history and Dr. Brian Etheridge, formerly with GGC, co-authored a chapter for the book, "Multicultural Instructional Design: Concepts, Methodologies, Tools, and Applications" (2020). The chapter, "Reflecting on New Faculty Training: Internationalized Learning Essentials," was written as part of GGC's QEP internationalization initiative. The chapter was originally published in the book they edited in 2018, "Curriculum Internationalization and the Future of Higher Education."

GGC Athletics' Dale Long and Matt Mahony earn NAIA awards

Dale Long, director of sports information for GGC Athletics, won first place in the game recap category of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Sports Information Directors Association's 2019-2020 Publications & Media Contest. His winning entry was NAIA Opening Round victory against Life University (Ga.). Long also manages GGCAthletics.com, which ranked fourth nationally among NAIA programs.

Matt Mahony, video and broadcast coordinator for GGC Athletics/Grizzly Digital Network, earned two awards in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Sports Information Directors Association's 2019-2020 Publications & Media Contest. Mahony took second-place honors for a publicity video announcing GGC Athletics' NIKE/BSN partnership, and third place for a Grizzlies UNCUT Video highlighting the men's soccer team's NAIA Opening Round victory.
