Dear GGC Community,

I write with the first of what will be many updates regarding the search for Georgia Gwinnett College’s third President.  Our Presidential Search Committee includes an incredibly diverse representation of GGC stakeholders, including faculty members, staff, students, alumni, Alumni Board, members of the GGC Foundation Board and Board of Trustees, and community partners. These members represent each of the GGC schools, the Faculty Senate, Staff Council, and SGA, as well as other student organizations and staff positions.  In addition to this diverse representation, GGC has enlisted the expertise of Parker Executive Search, which has extensive experience in searches in higher education.  As charged by Chancellor Wrigley, this Presidential Search Committee will undergo the process of recommending 3-5 unranked candidates to the Chancellor and Special Regents Search Committee. The Chancellor and the Special Regents Search Committee will interview these candidates and recommend a finalist or finalists to the Board of Regents.

The first task of our Committee was to determine whether we would hold an open or a closed search for our new President.  While there are advantages in holding an open search (most notably, allowing the campus a direct forum to weigh in on specific candidates), ultimately the Committee unanimously determined that having a closed search allows for the strongest possible candidate pool.  The prospect of public anonymity allows current sitting Presidents, Vice-Presidents, and Provosts, all of whom have the kind of leadership, fundraising ability, organizational skills, and experience that GGC needs, the flexibility to apply without jeopardizing their current employment.  Therefore, GGC will be holding a closed search for the next President.

It is important to the Committee that we represent the entire GGC community. We want all members of our community to participate as much as possible in the process of determining the search criteria.  We want to know what qualities of a new President are important to you.  As such, we are planning forum-like “listening sessions” on campus during the week after Thanksgiving Break.  There will be separate forums for faculty, staff, current students, alumni and community members, and an open forum for any member of the GGC community.  In addition, you will be receiving a survey and Thought Exchange seeking your feedback on your vision for the next GGC President.  Based on the feedback from the listening sessions and the survey, we will craft the job description and call for applications, which will be posted in national advertisements before the end of the semester.

Our goal is to provide constant updates on the search process. There will be a GGC website which will have current information about our process and timeline. Once we have crafted the advertisement, we will also solicit your nominations for candidates. Please be on the lookout for information in the coming week regarding the listening sessions, the survey, and the website.

In the meantime, if you have questions, or wish to provide feedback, or request information about the process, please do not hesitate to reach out to any member of the Committee. We look forward to working together with all of you to find the best President for GGC!

Thank you,
