Subject: Update on Fall Semester
I recently thanked the faculty and staff for helping GGC to thrive in our current online environment. I never doubted for a moment that we would be able to maintain our relentless focus on your success in spite of all the difficulties resulting from COVID-19. I must also recognize you for your determination as you worked toward success in the virtual classroom setting.
There are numerous stories of how well we are serving our students and sustaining our academic enterprise – check some of them out on our news page and follow GGC on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Questions about when and how we will return to campus are top of mind for all of us. I am pleased to announce that fall classes are expected to be held in person. We are actively preparing to make social distancing accommodations – like teaching hybrid courses, where students alternate between learning in the classroom and learning online. I want to assure you that the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority.
A great deal of planning and preparation, involving a number of scenarios, is underway to prepare to bring employees and students back to campus so that everyone may engage in a face-to-face higher education experience. We are working with the University System of Georgia in tandem with the Governor’s Office and the Georgia Department of Public Health to make informed decisions based on advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about the status of our campus.
GGC remains committed to proactively educating and reminding faculty, staff and students of best practices in prevention, both on and off campus. The Public Health FAQ page continues to be an important source of information and is constantly updated as new information becomes available. I invite you to take a moment, look it over and see for yourself that we are dedicated to providing the most up-to-date and relevant information regarding COVID-19. In some small way, we hope this calms any fears you might have about your return to campus and continuing your education at GGC.
