Did you know? GGC is part of the University System of Georgia (USG). This affords us a unique opportunity in that we can borrow library materials from any other school within the system. That means UGA, GSU, Valdosta State, etc. Eligible items may be requested from these schools and picked up at the Kaufman Library within a few days. We call this service GIL Express.
Who is eligible?
All currently enrolled students and employed faculty and staff who are in good standing with their home library (that means no overdue items or outstanding fines).
What is eligible?
Print books, with the exception of items on reserve or in other non-circulating collections. Unfortunately, journal articles cannot be requested through GIL Express but may be available through Interlibrary Loan.
How long does it take?
Usually between 2 and 3 days, depending on the distance of the school. Some items from UGA have been known to arrive the next day!
How do I find out what other schools offer?
You will need to search the University System of Georgia scope in GIL-Find.
How do I place a request?
Once you find an item, select GET IT to see where it is available at other institutions, then login to your library account (using your GGC credentials), and select the Request option for the desired institution. Pending requests are displayed in your library account. You will also receive an email when the item arrives.
Can’t wait until it arrives? Make the trip yourself! Eligible items may also be checked out in person. And when you’re done, just drop it off at the Kaufman Library, and we’ll return it for you.
