On Tuesday, April 1, Information Technology (IT) will begin the Windows 11 transition on Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC)-managed computers as Microsoft will no longer provide updates or support for Windows 10 after Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025. This transition will ensure all GGC-managed computers are updated and in compliance with the University System of Georgia IT Handbook.
IT will transition GGC-managed computers to Windows 11 as follows:
- Current employees will receive an invitation to schedule a Windows 11 transition appointment with the Help Desk. IT will prioritize faculty appointments in April and May. Staff appointments will begin in June.
- Shared computers (e.g., lectern computers, computers in classrooms, computers in labs, laptops located in laptop carts, etc.) will transition to Windows 11 between Wednesday, May 7, and Friday, May 16.
- New employees will receive a Windows 11 enabled computer during onboarding.
To further prepare for this transition, IT recommends faculty and staff do the following:
- Review "What’s new with Windows 11 Update."
- Attend a Windows 11 information session Wednesday, March 26 or Friday, March 28.
- Backup files to OneDrive prior to Windows 11 transition appointment.
- Check email beginning Tuesday, April 1, for Windows 11 transition appointment information.
