African American Male Initiative

AAMI Elite Scholars
The African American Male Initiative (AAMI) Elite Scholars is a system-wide initiative that is open to all students and is designed to increase the number of students who complete their postsecondary education from any University System of Georgia (USG) institution.
Its mission is to provide an integrated program model of academic, leadership and life skills that supports any participating student to successfully complete each academic level and graduate.
AAMI Summit
The African American Male Initiative (AAMI) Summit is open to all staff, faculty and students of all races, genders and identities. This event unites GGC’s campus community with discussions of Black male experiences and support of AAMI Elite Scholars.
Registration is closed for the 2025 AAMI Summit.
Past AAMI Summit Speakers

Dr. Akinyele Umoja (keynote speaker), author, activist and professor of Africana Studies, Georgia State University

Dr. Brandon Lewis, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, Georgia Gwinnett College
Lewis is deeply involved in scholarship, community engagement and mentorship. He currently serves as the director of the African American Male Initiative-Elite Scholars and is the founder of Stepping Toward Educational Progress (STEP), a youth program that utilizes the art form of stepping to develop children holistically.

Allan Coye, executive vice president and global head of Recorded Music Business Development, Warner Music Group
Prior to his tenure at WMG, he was vice president of Strategy & Business Development at Viacom, where he worked closely with cable networks such as Comedy Central, MTV and Vh1 on strategy and finding new business opportunities. The Atlanta native began his career in financial services at companies such as Goldman Sachs and Investcorp. He completed his undergraduate studies at Georgia Tech and his MBA at Yale. He currently resides in New York City.
