Daniel Pinzon: DIRECTORY

Dr. Daniel F. Pinzon loves mathematics as an art and a science. He is interested in how mathematics affects and is affected by the other arts and sciences. He is also greatly interested in how mathematics is perceived and how to foster a positive attitude towards mathematics in others. He is studying how this positive attitude can help students learn mathematics more easily and effectively. Pinzon earned a B.S. in physics with a concentration in mathematics at Cornell University and his Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Kentucky.
 
At the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, as an assistant professor of mathematics, Pinzon worked with undergraduates to do research in the topology of DNA, graph theory, the mathematics of string theory and educational work introducing cryptography to the high school setting. He also worked extensively in the College Ready Master Teacher program, working closely with middle school and high school mathematics teachers to further their professional development in content and inquiry-based learning and fostering professional learning communities. He helped develop and redesign many courses including Topology, Mathematics for Liberal Arts Students and a modeling inquiry based approach to the general education and Calculus Mathematics courses.

Pinzon is excited to be part of the faculty at GGC and work at a college that is still in formation and encourages new methods of instruction that foster a more effective learning environment. He recently is part of a STEM mini-grant program that is developing an inquiry based learning teaching style that fosters constructive active learning students in the college algebra classroom.

Pinzon is married to Dr. Katherine Pinzon who is also a professor of mathematics at GGC. They have three children and are having a wonderful time exploring all the parks, zoos and museums in the Atlanta area.
